"Counseling" is an office term used as a weapon by supervisors who are displeased with their subordinates. When a subordinate does not "conform" to what a supervisor wants, he/she is immediately placed on "counseling".
The use of this term is an insult to clinical psychology, because all counseling is client-centered rather than counselor-centered. The correct term that should be used in offices is "brainwashing". Because that is what it really is.
