It has occurred to me that the Igorot bululs might have their origins in the Hindu shivalingam. Both are upright and phallus-shaped, are usually dark or black, are placed outdoors, and are libated with water, wine, and milk.

And the Hindu shivalingams, in turn, might have their origins in the ancient Greek herm.
